MASTERING MANAGEMENT

Why do some managers have teams who adore them and consistently excel – while other managers are perpetually overworked and hear crickets during team meetings?

Master the skills that top managers use to go from “not good with people” to confident leaders of happy, high-performing teams

Yet most managers never get the training they need to be good with people, which is what great management is all about.

So they continue to make it up as they go along – missing out on essential skills, losing trust, making communication blunders, damaging relationships, losing team members, or getting a reputation as a micromanager – all while working 14-hour days.

Great managers are made, not born.

If you’re a new manager who’s now in charge of your former peers, you might be feeling:

A) The desire to prove that you can handle your new role

B) Worry that your team won’t take your direction seriously

C) Nervous about giving feedback to your friends

D) All of the above

Or maybe you’ve already been managing for a while, but your team is having communication breakdowns and productivity issues. You don’t know how to actively nurture healthy relationships, and it’s only a matter of time before you lose valuable employees.

Decades of research show that the number one reason people leave their current job is because of poor management.

  • Still acting as an individual contributor rather than delegating (a sure shot to burnout)

  • Delivering feedback harshly – or not at all

  • Planning solo, then communicating that plan to the team ineffectively (two red flags there)

  • Following a rigid formula or relying on logic alone, without taking human personalities into account

  • Freezing up or avoiding issues when the answers aren’t clear

  • Trying to solve everyone’s problems individually, instead of knowing when and how to empower the team to work it out

Here are some of the manager mistakes we see all the time:

Even if you do take management training, most of what you’ll find is a lot of heady concepts and theories that don’t actually show you how to put great management into practice.

The result is pages of notes that you’ll forget as soon as the training’s over – and little-to-no new skills that you’ll actually use.

So how do you develop a great rapport with your team, motivate people (so you don’t have to pick up their slack), and have challenging conversations without breaking a sweat?

There are three types of managers: The feather duster, the hammer, and that sweet spot in between (what we teach)

A group of four people working together happily

The “feather duster” simply tells people what they want to hear and avoids speaking the hard truths that help a team member improve. As a result, teams can’t make meaningful progress and get caught up in interpersonal squabbles that detract from the big-picture goal. Morale plummets as your superstars wonder why poor performers aren’t held accountable, and many end up leaving.

The “hammer” has no awareness of how to talk to humans in a way that inspires them. This kind of manager doesn’t take a team member’s emotions into account before delivering critical feedback or holding them accountable. Relationships are damaged, creativity suffers, and team members stop offering input or extra effort.

Then there’s a set of highly attuned skills that aren’t necessarily intuitive but can absolutely be learned – even if you’re not a “natural” people person or your palms get clammy before team Zoom meetings.

These essential skills create high-functioning team members who:

  • Are self-motivated

  • Work at their highest capacity without needing to be asked

  • Enjoy spending time together

  • Take feedback well and actually use it to improve

  • Have a shared vision and see themselves as more than just cogs in the machine

  • Function efficiently without needing to be micromanaged

  • And most importantly — achieve results that get noticed by everyone else in the company

The good news is that you don’t have to be born an extravert or a “people person” to learn and apply these skills.

But you can’t get there with a book or a podcast. If you want results, then you need new habits – and that’s exactly our specialty.

You don’t learn new skills during a training workshop alone.

It happens when you practice, and that’s why we’ve included the Practice Lab as part of The 7 Keys to Exceptional People Management.

The Practice Lab is unique. After your initial training workshop, you’ll have practical skills and concrete tools to help you implement in the real world, including your bonus Manager Toolkit Microlearning Video Series.

Then we’ll reconvene for a second, interactive session that focuses on you getting real-time feedback and mentorship from our expert team. This piece will ensure you accelerate your skills and don’t reinforce bad habits.

Personal Development Blended With Professional Development

Most management training ignores the fact that a great manager needs to be emotionally intelligent.

Being a hammer or a feather duster may have worked in 1983, but it doesn’t work now.

A white woman explaining an idea

Not only are interpersonal skills necessary for you to excel at your job, they lead to more confidence, better relationships (both in and out of the office), and greater happiness. And they’re the type of skills that get you noticed by your boss, so you can advance your career, earn a higher salary, and work on dream projects.

If you’re the kind of person who loves self-improvement and wants to cut through the fluff and get straight to the value, this training will resonate deeply.

We’ll refund your enrollment fee in full if you don’t find value in the sessions.
